Books at the Barn brings authors and readers together through a series of author talks and literary events. There are approximately ten events each year and these are held either at The Old Dairy in Hatherden or on Zoom.

Books at the Barn was started in January 2012 by Louisa Symington, ex-Publicist from Penguin Books, and Sarah O’Rorke, of Forton Fine Art. Over the last decade, they have had a myriad of fabulous authors who have captivated our audience with their stories, whether fiction or factual. They have welcomed Lucy Worsley, Clare Balding, Alexander McCall Smith, Frank Gardner, Earl Spencer, Andrew Roberts, Helen Dunmore, William Dalrymple, Max Hastings, Rachel Joyce, Kate Adie, Stella Rimington, Jung Chang, Claire Tomalin, Tracy Chevalier and many more.
