The Course
An ideal course in upholstery for all levels. Whether you would like to start a new hobby, brush up on existing skills or simply continue with your knowledge, the Upholstery Workshop course will cater for your needs. You will acquire skills and knowledge about traditional and modern upholstery whilst having access to one to one advice and instruction.
During the six week course you will acquire new skills from either your own project or the other projects brought in by your fellow students. Each lesson will teach you the theory and practical aspect of upholstery. You will be taught how to strip, renovate, web and, stuff your piece of furniture using either traditional or modern upholstery techniques. More advanced techniques for the slightly more skilled students will be demonstrated to the beginners. This can include lashing of springs, buttoning or working with a sprung unit seat base. Basic wood renovation techniques will be demonstrated on traditional pieces of furniture.
Students are invited to bring their own project, for beginners suitable pieces could include drop in chairs, footstools and headboards. Projects will be discussed prior to the start of the course.
A wide range of upholstery materials are provided and sundries, such as webbing, tacks, stuffing, hessin, wadding and calico can be purchased. Basic equipment can be borrowed, however, it’s recommend that you order the basic tools such as an upholstery hammer, tack/staple remover and tacks for the first couple of lessons.
